Wildewood Hosts the Candidates
"The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all." ~John F. Kennedy
“The power to question is the basis of all human progress.” ~Indira Gandhi
Why hold this event?

Our learning center is a place where community can gather to learn from and with each other. At a time when our nation's democracy feels especially fragile and uncertain, education about social and political issues feels particularly important.

On March 15, 2023, just over two weeks away from our local town elections, our learning center thrived with conversation, curiosity, and civility.

Every candidate for a contested position was invited, albeit, only 8 days before the event, hence the surprise that 10 of the 11 candidates were able to attend. All candidates (attending or not) were also invited to answer a series of questions including, "What is your relevant experience?" and "If all of Canton could read one book or watch one movie what would you recommend?" (among several others). Their answers are available for you to read here.

Upon entering, I asked guests to tell me one of their hopes for Canton. The responses were wonderful. (See image for some of the responses.)
Several guests at our event expressed interest in more information about the election, particularly the Select Board candidates, hence this page.

Thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
Tara Shuman
